Capturing the essence of a beautiful culinary journey, perfectly aligned with the spirit of ‘The Sunday Thymes.’

What an absolutely incredible weekend it was! Filled with laughter, good company, and, most importantly, extraordinary food, we truly made the most of every moment. The highlight, undoubtedly, was celebrating Connor’s birthday, an occasion so special it warranted not one, but two delightful dinners out! We seized the prime opportunity presented by Chicago’s much-anticipated Restaurant Week to indulge in some of the city’s finest culinary offerings. This annual event is a true feast for the senses, allowing diners to experience high-end restaurants at a more accessible price point, and it never disappoints.

Our gastronomic adventure began on Friday evening with a visit to Balena, a renowned Italian restaurant known for its rustic yet refined dishes. The atmosphere was vibrant, buzzing with excitement, and the menu promised an array of tempting choices. The standout dish that truly captivated our palates was a sublime **squid ink tagliolini with succulent crab and delicate sea urchin**. The pasta, dyed naturally black by the squid ink, offered a dramatic visual appeal, while its texture was perfectly al dente. Each forkful was a symphony of ocean flavors, with the sweetness of the crab perfectly complementing the subtle, briny notes of the sea urchin, all harmonized by the rich, earthy depth of the tagliolini. It was an unforgettable start to the birthday celebrations.

Saturday brought another culinary escapade to Tete Charcuterie, a restaurant celebrated for its innovative approach to traditional charcuterie and its bold, globally inspired dishes. This establishment offers a unique dining experience, pushing boundaries and surprising diners with unexpected flavor combinations. Here, we were absolutely enthralled by the **lamb vindaloo meatballs served with a velvety aloo gobi custard**. This dish was a brilliant fusion of Indian-inspired spices and classic comfort food. The meatballs were tender, deeply flavorful with the fiery kick of vindaloo, perfectly balanced by the creamy, subtly spiced aloo gobi custard. It was a testament to Tete Charcuterie’s creativity and ability to deliver truly distinctive and memorable dining experiences during Chicago Restaurant Week.
